Ontario, California – The Southern California PGA Section, in conjunction with the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals, is excited to announce the addition of an inaugural Women’s California State Open to the 2016 tournament schedule. The 36-hole stroke play Championship will be contested over two days, October 12-13, at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. The official practice round will be held on October 11th.
SCPGA Independent Director Susan Roll states, “The SCPGA provides outstanding opportunities for men and women to compete in Southern California. I am beyond excited for the creation of this event, providing another competitive opportunity specifically for women professionals and amateurs.”
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon is a 36-hole golf facility located in Beaumont, California and features picturesque 360-degree mountain views. The par 72 Champions course will play just under 6,000 yards both days for the championship. The host facility professional is PGA Director of Golf, Henry Liaw.
Western Section LPGA Officer Christie Quinn states, “I am honored that the SCPGA said yes to partnering for the first ever SCPGA and LPGA T&CP hosted Women’s California State Open. Working together this event will offer female golfers of all ages a chance to compete. This dream team collaboration brings together resources from the previous LPGA tournament sponsors and the amazing Southern California PGA operations team! It’s exciting times for women!”
The 132-player field event will feature top women professionals and amateurs in the country to become a premier event in the southern region of the United States. Amateurs must carry a GHIN index of 9.6 or below at time of entry. Based on a full field size, the minimum purse is $32,000.
