SCPGA Professional Scott Mallory and Associate Kevin Ruby of The Journey at Pechanga defended their hometurf and took home the Inaugural Member-Associate Championship firing a nine-under par 63 at the scenic The Journey at Pechanga in Temecula Valley.
The Championship’s Triple Play format consisted of a Scramble on holes 1-6, Four-ball on holes 7-12 and Alternate Shot on holes 13-18. The unique format created a fun challenge which necessitated a variety of different strategies.
Mallory and Ruby’s scorecard was blemish-free with nine-birdies scattered throughout. The team hit their stride mid-way through their round with birdies on holes 8, 9, 10, and 11 during the Four-ball format. Teams Kyle Mendoza, PGA/Jacob Rodriguez and Mark Geddes, PGA/Luka Swisher finished tied for second place at eight-under par 64 and one-stroke off the lead.
Skins were paid out to the following four teams: Andrew Kramer/Raj Samra with an eagle on the par-4 4th, Paul Wise/Michael D’Angelo with an eagle on the par-5 9th, Al Geiberger Jr./Michael Block with an eagle on the par-4 10th, and Sean King/Michael Reese with a birdie on the par-4 14th.
Special thanks to GT Golf Supplies, Scott Mallory, PGA, and the staff at The Journey at Pechanga for their support.
