ANAHEIM, CA – On April 12th, The Southern California PGA (SCPGA) Foundation made history with the donation of the 500th set of golf clubs, through their ClubsForeYouth® program, to the Orange High School girls and boys golf teams. The SCPGA Foundation also awarded a $5,000 scholarship to one graduating student-athlete, Ramon Sotelo.

The presentation began with the gift of the golf equipment for all 17 members of the Orange High School golf team as well the awarding of the $5,000.00 scholarship to Mr. Sotelo which was a surprise to all in attendance. SCPGA Partner California Canopy also donated a brand new canopy customized for Orange High School to the golf team. As ad added feature, SCPGA Staff Anthony Leone and Max Berman put together a skills competition (drive, chip, and putt) for the high school team to take a part in to wrap up the day.

Sotelo will be attending Santiago Canyon College in the Fall with the hopes of transferring to a four-year University to pursue Mechanical Engineering as well as real estate.

“You don’t expect someone to give you $5,000. It’s just more motivation that there are people out there wanting to help you continue your education, you may not know them but they are out there” said Sotelo.

The SCPGA Foundation develops and administers junior golf programs as well as a wide array of other community services and initiatives throughout the Southern California PGA, including the ClubsForeYouth® program. The SCPGA Foundation saw a need in the local community, in this case, Orange High School’s boys and girls golf teams in need of golf equipment to compete and field competitive sports teams for future seasons.

A special thanks to The Tiger Woods Learning Lab and host PGA Professional Roman Gonzales and his staff for hosting this ceremony.
