52nd PGA Professional Championship

BLUFFTON, South Carolina – Congratulations to each of the 12 of the Southern California PGA representatives who competed in the 52nd PGA Professional Championship at the exquisite Belfair Country Club!

West Coast golf professionals competing at an East Coast facility didn’t equate to an easy four days with championship pins tucked deep on nearly every hole. Thick roughs and unpredictable swirling winds resulted in only three of the SCPGA contingent remaining following the 36-hole cut line at plus-five. Brian Smock of Coronado Golf Course, Geoffrey Dean of PGA WEST Private and PGA Life Member Jeff Hart. Notable mention goes to Michael Meisenzahl formerly of Los Angeles Country Club, who qualified though the 2018 Southern California Section Championship, but officially transferred to the New Jersey Section on April 2nd, 2019.

With the final cut after round three falling at seven-over, Dean, Smock and Heart all made it though into the final round where favorable early morning conditions produced some great playing from the SCPGA Members. Hart finished his final round with a two-under, 70, placing him T-33, with a three day total of five-over, 292. Finishing one stroke behind was Brain Smock, carding a final round 71 after sinking a 20+ foot putt on his final hole of regulation to finish with a three day total of 293, placing him at T-42. Playing four rounds of consistent golf was Geoffrey Dean, posting rounds of 74,73,74,73, finishing T-51 with a three day total of 294.
