SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 18, 2025) — Congratulations to Garrett Sapp, PGA, of San Gabriel Country Club, on recording his second major championship of the season, taking home the trophy for the Southern California PGA Match Play Championship at The Valley Club of Montecito.

In the semi-finals, Sapp earned his way into the finals after taking down Lyon Lazare, PGA, of Monarch Beach Golf Links 3&2. Logan Scott, PGA, of Oakmont Country Club, emerged from the semi-finals to meet Sapp after winning his match 4&3 over Mark Geddes, PGA, of Coronado Golf Course.

After an opening birdie on the first hole, Sapp found himself 1UP, but Scott would respond on hole 3 to bring the match all square. After that, both players were unable to take control of the match, as they were all square heading into hole 15. The turn of the match came on hole 15, though, as Sapp hit a 4-iron to three feet to get a conceded eagle from Scott and to go 1UP. Sapp secured the match on hole 17 with an uphill birdie to close the match out 2&1.

With today’s win, Sapp earns an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s World Wide Technology Championship in Cabo San Lucas on November 6-9, 2025.

A big thank you to The Valley Club of Montecito, its members and staff, and to Scott Puailoa, PGA, and Nicholas Yannotti, PGA, for hosting this championship.
