Angelina Kim Claims 2024 Women's California State Open Presented by Toyota; Pat Hurst Wins Senior Division

PALM DESERT, CA (December 17, 2024) — Angelina Kim of Los Angeles is the 2024 Women’s California State Open Champion, Presented by Toyota with a one-under-par 71-72=143. This victory marks Kim’s first professional win in her debut as a newly turned pro.

In the Senior Division, Pat Hurst of Danville claimed the inaugural title of the new Senior Division with an impressive four-under-par score of 70-70=140. Hurst is a distinguished figure in golf, having secured the 1998 Nabisco Dinah Shore, an LPGA Major Championship, and participated in five Solheim Cups, including serving as the 2021 Solheim Cup Captain. She was also the 1995 LPGA Rookie of the Year, along with five additional victories on the LPGA TOUR.

Kim entered the day one stroke back from day one’s leader, amateur Ellie Bushnell, and produced an even par 72 on the day to claim the championship. She recorded a clean scorecard on the back with all pars and a deciding birdie on hole 14 to win the WCSO by two shots. 

As for the Low Amateurs, Madison Saysanasongkham, Jio Yoo, Ellie Bushnell, and Mia Kim all finished tied for third as the Low Amateurs in the field. With a scorecard playoff, Mia Kim came away with the title of Low Amateur.

The 2024 Women’s California State Open represents a meaningful step forward in the growth of women’s golf, offering a platform to showcase the skill, determination, and passion of female golfers. The Southern California PGA (SCPGA) remains committed to creating opportunities for women in the game, from developmental programs to championship events like this one. 

Founded in 2016, this is the ninth playing of the 36-hole stroke play Women’s California State Open, with past champions that include Alana Uriell (2023), and Corina Kelepouris (2022). This year marks the largest field size since inception, with a total field of 89 players split between two divisions, including a first-time division for seniors.

PALM DESERT, CA (December 16, 2024) — The opening round of the 2024 Women’s California State Open Presented by Toyota has concluded with amateur Ellie Bushnell, a sophomore on the Oklahoma State University Women’s Golf Team, leading the Championship Division after posting a 2-under-par, 70. In the Senior Division, amateur Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, has the solo lead with a 3-under-par, 69.

In solo second place of the championship division is Angelina Kim, of Los Angeles, and leading a pack of even-par finishers is defending Champion, Alana Uriell of Carlsbad. As for the Senior Division, LPGA Tour legend Pat Hurst is one shot back of Stouffer with a 2-under-par 70.

A hole-in-one prize is up for grabs on the par-3 hole 17, with the possible winner taking home a 2-year lease on a Toyota RAV! Contestants will continue to try their luck tomorrow during the final round.
