Steve Holmes Comes From Behind To Claim Victory

LA HABRA, CA (July 23, 2024) — Steve Holmes, PGA, of Rustic Canyon Golf Course, completed the comeback to claim the 2024 SCPGA Senior Section Championship at Hacienda Golf Club.
With this victory, Holmes has secured an exemption to compete in the prestigious 2025 Hoag Classic Newport Beach, a PGA TOUR Champions event at the scenic Newport Beach Country Club on March 17-23, 2025. In addition, Holmes will lead 10 SCPGA Section members at the Senior PGA Professional Championship that will be held in September in Oregon.
Entering the day, Holmes was one stroke off the lead with a 1-over-par 72 from the opening round. With a bunched-up leaderboard at the top and multiple players in contention, Holmes turned on the after-burners down the back nine stretch with an eagle on 10 and birdies on 12, 15, and 16. Holmes finished his day with a tournament-low 6-under-par 65 to take a four-shot lead over the field of 74 players with a 5-under-par 137 total. It marks Holmes’ first SCPGA Senior Section Championship title.
