FINAL ROUND RECAP

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 18, 2024) — Congratulations to Kyle Mendoza, PGA, of Hacienda Golf Club, on capturing the 100th installment of the 2024 Southern California PGA Professional Championship at Hillcrest Country Club.

After an impressive bogey-free 5-under-par 66 in the second round, Mendoza entered the day with a two-shot lead over a stacked field. He picked up where he left off on Tuesday’s round, producing another bogey-free final round of 4-under-par 67 to cruise to victory. His impressive play over the last two rounds was highlighted by 36 holes of bogey-free golf with nine birdies on the card.

When Mendoza was asked about today’s victory, he said, “My round today was clean again with no bogeys, and it was good that I was able to keep the mindset that I had of trying to get to a certain number with no one chasing me.”

Finishing in second place was defending champion and four-time winner Michael Block, PGA, of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, with a 7-under-par 206 total.

The victory for Mendoza earns him an exemption into the PGA Tour’s The American Express and a custom Club Car for a year. Mendoza has now etched his name into the historic Section Championship for a third time after winning the title in back-to-back years (2020, 2021).

The Southern California PGA Championship also served as the national qualifier for the 2025 PGA Professional Championship hosted at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on April 27-30, 2025.

Mendoza has made two starts in the PGA Championship after a T-16 finish in the 2024 PGA Professional Championship earned him a spot at Valhalla and a T-6 in the 2022 PGA Professional Championship to earn a spot in the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills. When asked about qualifying for the PGA Professional Championship again, Mendoza said, “Winning the National PGA Professional Championship would be huge for me, that’s the last thing I want to do in my Professional career. I don’t know how much longer I will be able to maintain the level of practice and play I do now and to win that would be super cool.”
