Brian Smock and Tommy Jernigan Claim Victory!
PALM DESERT, CA – Congratulations to PGA Professional Brian Smock and his assistant Tommy Jernigan of Coronado Golf Course on posting a 21-under par to claim the 2023 Professional-Assistant Championship title!
Hosted at Palm Desert’s JW Marriott on the Palms and Valley Courses, 165 players arrived in the Coachella Valley to compete in a two-day 36-hole Four-Ball Stroke Play event with the better gross score of the 2-person team counting towards the team score.
Smock and Jernigan got off to a hot start on day one with a bogey-free 64 and then matched the desert heat on day two. The dynamic duo fired off a stellar second round of 59 that was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 9th hole. Team Coronado locked down the top six spots on the leaderboard with Jernigan, Chris Lempa (2nd), Theodore Samouris (3rd), Kyle Robinson (T4th), Tim Parun (T4th), and Mark Geddes (T4th) all capitalizing on Smock’s great play.
Congratulations to the second-round low scores that will be receiving the Lap Money. Smock and Jernigan with their 13-under 59 on the Valley Course and on the Palm Course there was a three-way tie with seven-under 65’s from Ross Fisher / Matthew Edwards, Blair Harkins / Anthony Estes, and Jerry Hixson / Marc Hulsether.
