Kelepouris Goes Wire-To-Wire!
Women's California State Open at Omni La Costa Resort | June 15, 2022(CARLSBAD, CA) June 15, 2022 – Corina Kelepouris goes wire-to-wire to win the 2022 Women’s California State Open with a three-under par, 141 total on the Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort!
Founded in 2016, this is the 7th playing of the 36-hole stroke play Women’s California State open with past champions that include Alyaa Abdulghany (2016), Brianna Do (2017), and Haley Moore (2019).
Playing in her first Women’s California State Open, Kelepouris, of Palm Desert, held a two-shot lead after an opening round of four-under par, 69, which included five birdies. Coming into the final round, Kelepouris said,” It’s been a while since I’ve been in this position as it is only my third tournament in the last 14 years. I will say there was hardly any sleep last night, just pure stress coming into the final round.”
Down the stretch of her final round, Kelepouris posted seven consecutive pars and posted a one-over par, 73 for the tournament, finishing five-shots clear of the field enroute to claiming her first Women’s California State Open title. When asked what aspect of her game was working best, Kelepouris said, “I’ve been putting pretty well this week and a few dropped in, plus when I did miss the green, my short game was working well. Fortunately, things went my way, and I feel relieved to secure this win. I want to thank everybody back at The Palms and my family for supporting me out here.”
Low Amateur honors, and solo second place goes to Napua Glossner of San Diego with a two-over par, 70-76, for a 146 total. Glossner is a former SCPGA Junior Tour member and is currently playing collegiately as a junior at Kansas State University.
