Austin Bautista Is The 2022 Enagic San Diego County Open Champion

CHULA VISTA, CA (October 13, 2022) – Austin Bautista of Clearwater, Florida, came surging back in the final round of the Enagic San Diego County Open to earn medalist honors after three straight days of hard-fought golf. Bautista signed rounds of 69-63-64 for a three-day total -17, 196, to complete the four-stroke comeback.
Bautista entered the final round trailing Rico Hoey by four strokes but quickly evaporated the deficit with a 6-under-par 30 on the front nine to take a one-stroke advantage heading into the back nine.
Bautista rattled off four straight pars down the final stretch with a one-stroke lead as he approached the final two holes. The changing point came on hole 17 with a perfect strike to eight feet to secure the birdie and a three-stroke swing after a Hoey bogey.
“I’m very confident when I’m playing well,” said Bautista. “I shot 8-under yesterday, and my putter was rolling, and my mindset was I’m going to win. I won the tournament on 17 today. I had a one-stroke lead and hit a perfect cut 4-iron to eight feet and made the putt.”
Bautista, an Australian native, also took home the $10,000 champion’s check and a Kangen Water Iconic Filtration System by Enagic.
Kento Yamawaki of Encinitas strung together three solid days of golf to take home Low Amateur honors for the third straight year with a three-day total of 1-under-par 212.
“Getting Low Am here is always a treat,” said Yamawaki. “My driver wasn’t working out the best, but I managed to scramble out some pars and make some birdies. Looking just to take it step by step as I move forward.”
The revival of the San Diego County Open after 20 years was made possible by Enagic Golf Club at Eastlake and its dedicated staff, including host PGA Professional Neil Finch, PGA. The San Diego Open, presented by Enagic will return to Enagic Golf Club at Eastlake in October of 2023.
