2020 Southern California PGA Super Senior Championship
RIVERSIDE, California – Gary Sowinski of the Hodges Golf Learning Center had a brilliant finish to capture the 2020 Southern California Super Senior PGA Championship at the Victoria Club.
Sowinski has now won the Championship for the remarkable fourth consecutive year in the five years of the event’s existence.
Sowinski started the second round with a two-stroke lead over fellow competitors Jim Ley of Twin Lakes Golf Course and Jon Fiedler of Los Posas Country Club, but was unable to get much going for most of his final round sitting at three-over par for the day thru 14 holes. Things would start going Sowinski’s way, however, as he drained a short eagle putt on the par-5 15th and followed that up with a par, birdie, birdie finish to put his stamp on the Championship with a two-day four-under par 140.
Fiedler nearly pulled off the comeback as he was three-under par on the day going into the closing par-5 18th, but a costly bogey had him finish with a final round 70 and one-stroke back at three-under par 141.
Special thank you to the members of Victoria Club along with General Manager Hank Schiller, PGA and Head Golf Professional Jeff Cross, PGA, for hosting the Championship.
A final thank you to Rules Committee Chairman Ron O’Connor, PGA for volunteering his time and expertise along with the PGA TOUR for supporting the professional purse.
