Gilley & Saunders Win The Pro-Pro Title At Monarch Beach Golf Links

DANA POINT, CA (June 22, 2020)  – PGA Professionals Chris Gilley & Steve Saunders take home the hardware in the 2020 SCPGA Professional-Professional Scramble after firing a -12 under par, 58, at Monarch Beach Golf Links.

Players were eager for the return to competitive golf since the three-month hiatus due to the virus outbreak. With proper safety measures in place, the first event back had a full field in the two-person scramble.

Gilley, from La Quinta Country Club, and Saunders of Temecula Creek Inn found their groove early on the front nine with four birdies and an eagle on the 512 yard, par 5, 9th. The birdie’s kept rolling in down the stretch finding an another seven on the back nine and tying the clubhouse leaders Logan Scott, PGA, of Oakmont Country Club and Michael Griffin, PGA, of Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. After the recommended USGA scorecard playoff procedure was complete, Gilley and Saunders took home the victory.

Congratulations to Petra Cole, PGA, of Torrey Pines Golf Course for winning the closest to the hole contest presented by Golf Buddy on the 4th hole, hitting it to 1’5″.

There were four skins won today – Schacht/Jirges on hole #1; Mendoza/Lungo on hole #7; Scott/Griffin on hole #12; Kramer/Bertagna on hole #16;.
