Team SCPGA Wins The 2019 Cal Cup!

Valley Club at Montecito | December 18-19, 2019

MONTECITO, CA (December 19th) –  Team Southern California PGA is the 2019 California Cup Match champions with a score of 5 to 7 on the famed Alister Mackenzie designed Valley Club at Montecito.

Teams representing the Northern California PGA and Southern California PGA competed in the second bi-annual California Cup Matches which are contested in a Ryder Cup format. Eight PGA Members from each Association competed in four-ball day one and singles matches day two.

Day one’s four-ball matches resulted in a 2-2 split, with victories Michael Block/Kyle Mendoza and Vinnie Poncino/Brian Smock for team SCPGA.

Eight points were up for grabs on day two and Team SCPGA clinched the victory with match wins from Block, Mendoza, Smock and Andrew Kramer. Jeff Hart and Rick Garboski both halved their singles matches, finalizing the 7-5 victory for the South.

This marks the second playing of the California Cup matches, the first of which was contested in 2015 on the Bayonet & Blackhorse courses in Monterey with the Northern California PGA team taking home the victory. The 2017 matches were slated to be played at the Valley Club, but because of the devastating fires that year, and subsequent flooding, were forced to be postponed.
