Opportunity to Keep Golf at The Links @ Victoria!

The Kimmelman half of the Victoria Golf Course repurposing project is not moving forward.  The Plenitude half containing the “entertainment driving range” is moving forward, and while it is under construction, the Victoria driving range will remain open for business.

This means that roughly 93 acres of Los Angeles County parkland is now unspoken for and needs to be developed into something other than abandoned open space.  Both County Supervisor Holly Mitchell (2nd District) in whose District Victoria sits and Supervisor Janice Hahn (4th District) whose District directly abuts Victoria on 3 sides are aware that the South Bay/Harbor region of Los Angeles County has been identified by the National Golf Foundation as part of the most golf starved region of the United States.  They are aware that closure of the golf course will orphan local high school, college, and junior golf programs.

Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation is going to be reaching out to South Bay/Harbor residents in August to get their input on what to do with these abandoned 93 acres.  If golfers show up at August’s two scheduled meetings and participate in the poll Parks & Recreation has just put online, it is highly likely that much of this acreage can be developed for golf purposes.  A 9-hole regulation golf course is very much in play.  But ONLY if golfers, golf clubs, and golf programs show up in August!

The communication below from Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation provides the details.

“The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation wants your ideas for a new park! The project would involve the redevelopment of the northern portion of Victoria Golf Course (located at 340 M.L.K. Jr. St, Carson, CA 90746) into a park with various amenities desired by the community.

Please take a few minutes to share a bit about your current use of parks in the area and your preferences for new recreational amenities at the proposed new park. Your answers will help us to better understand and meet the park and recreation needs of your community! Click here to take the online survey (available in English and Spanish):

Please also join us at one or both of the following workshops to share your ideas on what you would like to see at the proposed park!
