PALM DESERT, California – Alison Curdt, PGA of Wood Ranch Golf Club claims the 2017 Women’s Section Championship with rounds of 69-69 to finish with a 36-hole total of 138, 6-under par and three strokes clear of the field. Curdt, who won this Championship in 2015, caps off a memorable season now earning Women’s Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. Alison also had a strong showing back in September at the Section Championship finishing t4 and qualifying for the PGA Professional Championship- the first female to do so in the Southern California Section.
The beautiful and historic Avondale Golf Club in Palm Desert, CA played hosted to the eleventh playing of the Women’s Section Championship.
Curdt led the pack after round one, sitting at three-under, 69 but only one stroke clear Sara Ovadia of Alisal River Course. Ronnie Valerio, PGA of Tustin Ranch Golf Club & Erika Ilagan of SeaCliff Country Club each finished round one in the red, with 71’s and striking distance of the title.
Holding a one-stroke lead going into the final round, Curdt stayed steady on the front nine, posting an even par 36 but found herself trailing Sara Oviadia who was 2-under par for the day through nine and 4-under par for the Championship. In the final nine holes of the Championship though Curdt flipped the script and was dialed recording three birdies and six pars to finish at 3-under par 69. This strong finish helped Curdt to regain the lead and ultimately win the Championship by a margin of three strokes. Sara Oviadia finished with a 72 in the final round and for a third place finish at 2-under par with SeaCliff’s Country Club’s Erika Ilagan finishing second place at 3-under par (71-70).
Low round of the tournament goes to defending champion Lehua Wise, PGA of The Hideaway Golf Club who jumped up the leaderboard with a final round 4-under par 68 and a fourth place finish.
This Championship concludes the Women’s’ Division events for 2017 and the point standings are official with the top 8 players earning exemption into the 2017 SoCal Women’s Cup Matches, December 7-8 at Mission Hills Country Club. Those Professionals are as follows; Alison Curdt, Bari Brandwynne, Erika Ilagan, Sara Ovadia, Heather King, Jackie Riegle, Yumi Chung, Ronnie Valerio.
