VISTA, OCEANSIDE – The SCPGA Foundation’s generosity continued this week, with 15 students across two high schools receiving brand new Wilson Golf clubs as part of the ClubsForeYouth™ program! Through this initiative, the clubs are the players to own and take home for use outside of school hours. This provides the players access to the game of golf, spurring a continued interest in the sport even after they graduate from high school.
A new batch of gracious students accepted their sets from SCPGA Foundation Manager Matt Gilson during the first stop at Vista High School. A fortunate student, Ana Urrea told us, “It makes me really happy to be given this opportunity to own a set of golf clubs. I have always had to borrow a set from the school, and now this means I can go practice more and develop the skills I need to possibly compete in college.” Getting these clubs into the hands of athletes in need is an underlying goal of the initiative. Head Coach at Vista High School A.J. Mcgregor told us, “It is a really great program which gives the kids more incentive to get out and compete at a level they couldn’t have done with their old mis-matched clubs. It provides our students the opportunity to play a game that they wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to experience, I cant thank the organizations who have supported the SCPGA Foundations vision for the program!”
The second stop of the afternoon was at El Camnio High School, where an addition eleven members of the girls golf team received their new clubs. Layani McGrady told us, “I feel very honored to be a recipient of the program, and i cant wait to get out and play!” Jaclyn Reed “I’ve never had my own set of clubs and now that I have the opportunity to practice whenever I want, I am thinking more and more about trying to compete at the college level once I graduate!”
The ClubsForeYouth™ program still has numerous stops left throughout the year! Follow our progress on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! (@SCPGA & @SCPGAJrTour)
