Beaufils Captures Title in Dramatic Fashion
Ray Beaufils of Scottsdale, Arizona and James Drew of Las Vegas, Nevada headed to extra holes to decide this years Championship. On the 71st hole, Beaufils made birdie to Drew’s bogey as both players finished at 17-under par and set the stage for the playoff. After tying with birdies on the first playoff hole (Hole 18), the pair played the 18th one more time and with a second consecutive birdie, Beaufils captured this years title and the $14,000 champion share. Jay Hwang (UCLA) claimed low Amateur, of nine amateurs to make the cut, with a score of 277 (-11). Low Southern California PGA Professional, Chris Gilley (Seacliff Country Club) also finished at 277 with Hwang. Our sincerest thanks to the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon and PGA General Manager Brad Stormon and their entire staff for a great week.
Congratulations Ray Beaufils, 2013 California State Open Champion!
