Can you believe summer is almost here?! Thursday May 19th, the AAA hosted its third tournament of the year at the impressive Journey at Pechanga…and a journey it was. Conditions were difficult with usual afternoon winds reaching gusts of 25mph. Take in to account the extreme elevation changes and the angles at which the fairways and greens sat, players would struggle to keep par in their sites.
At eleven o’clock sharp, 40 players headed out in hopes of breaking up Kenny Pigman’s winning ways. A number of players were coming into this event playing some great golf including 3 US Open Local Qualifiers in Joshua Rider, Kyle Mendoza, and Kenny Pigman, PGA. As players began to filter in from the shotgun start there were a number of priceless expressions on their faces. From frustration, to bewilderment, to relief, it was telling that it had been a tough day at the Journey. However, one player stood out, Mr. Bobby Nickell of the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. Bobby played a stellar round of golf in brutal conditions to card a 4-under par 68, beating his nearest competitor by 4 shots, Mr. Tyler Pritkin. Great playing and congratulations to Bobby Nickell on his first victory in 2016!
