The historical gem, Griffith Park Golf Course, celebrated its 100th Year Anniversary this passed weekend as hundreds of local residents participated in live entertainment, great food, information booths, miniature golf, putting contests and the Southern California PGA Junior Golf Skills Competition. The celebration was a great success with representatives from the Southern California PGA (SCPGA), Southern California Golf Association (SCGA), The First Tee of Los Angeles, and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) all coming together to support the oldest golf course west of the Rocky Mountains. As a part of the day’s festivities, the Southern California PGA hosted their first Junior Golf Skills Competition with 78 juniors participating in the mock Drive, Chip, and Putt competition on the Griffith Park GC practice greens and the first hole of the Wilson Course. Griffith Park GC was a tremendous host for the inaugural SCPGA Junior Golf Skills Competition and we are looking forward to a return in the future for next Summer’s DCP Local Qualifiying. Congratulations to Kristina Xu (Girls 7-11), Juliette Ruaux (Girls 12-6), Vincent Gormley (Boys 6-9), Raphael Villarama (Boys 10-12), and Michael Sharkey (Boys 13-16) for placing 1st overall in their respective divisions. Each 1st place winner took home a brand new golf bag and medal! A special thanks goes out to all of those who participated and volunteered to assist with the event!
