SCPGA Foundation Director, Matt Gilson, organized and facilitated the afternoon and has personally attended each of the donation ceremonies since its inception in early 2017. The ClubsForeYouth® initiative is the SCPGA Foundations marquee program, which has made a powerful impact in the lives of the next generation of golfers. Early research indicated that many of the children playing in the high school level, specifically girls, have a difficult time accessing proper equipment needed to enjoy the game. Time and time again, recipients explain that they are using old, beat up equipment, or are stuck borrowing clubs from family members.
FONTANA, CA – The ClubsForeYouth® program has reached a milestone in its journey to help high school youth by providing new golf clubs to those in need. Today a total of 370 clubs have been donated to girls and boys throughout dozens of schools in Southern California. These students typically have never had golf clubs of their own. Nine sets were given to deserving girls from Citrus Valley High School and AB Miller High School in Fontana, CA. Along with the clubs, ClubsForeYouth® awards the students with a So Cal Golf Pass to receive discounted range balls and rounds of golf at selected courses. Following the ceremony, the students were able to try out their new clubs with a small putting contest following the ceremony.
“I’m so grateful for it! It’s going to help out in the way we practice and out routines and how much we can improve!” Said Citrus Valley High School student Elizabeth Mendoza.
