Celebrate National Women’s Golf Day by Offering Fitting, Instruction and Playing Opportunities
Susan Roll on the importance of celebrating National Women’s Golf Day by offering fitting, instruction and playing opportunities:
This year we celebrated National Women’s Golf Day with an event that promoted many aspects of the game, and highlighted the services we provide at Carlsbad Golf Center. We stressed the importance of practice and PGA Professional golf instruction to one’s improvement, and discussed the often-overlooked topic of custom clubfitting. Using properly fitted equipment should be taught at all levels of play. Many of the women who attended our event stated that they thought fitted clubs were for “better players” or at least those playing for a while. On the contrary, we stressed the benefits of custom fitting and properly fit equipment. More than 60 women of varying skill levels converged on our facility and were welcomed by our enthusiastic PGA Professional staff. With the help of LPGA Tour professionals, Lori West and Leanne Cassaday, as well as our own PGA Head Professional, Monica Stratton, the golfers were treated to four hours of education and fun in a relaxing atmosphere. The topics covered included instruction, equipment demos, custom clubfitting, information on women’s golf apparel, sun safety during practice and play, and the variety of benefits golf offers, from camaraderie with friends to business opportunities when playing with clients.
Susan Roll on the business impact of celebrating National Women’s Golf Day by offering fitting, instruction and playing opportunities:
As we have with various other events celebrating National Women’s Golf Day over the years, we experienced great success in this year’s event. Many participants have returned to our facility to practice and enjoy the company of friends. We planned the event hoping to inspire our guests to reach high and strive for improvement. Our teaching staff has benefitted as women have heeded our advice and sought out our teachers with the goal of playing better golf and increasing their enjoyment of the game. Group clinic participation in our women’s, seniors (and even youth golfers) classes went up 25 percent. On the clubfitting front, our percentage of women getting fit went up eight percent in the month after the event compared to the year-to-date percentage. Our custom clubfitting schedule is extremely busy, as golfers from all demographics are seeking equipment fit personally to them. They now understand that this equipment leads to improvement, as waiting for improvement to occur before taking this step is antiquated and counterproductive. As a result, our “close” percentage on fitting sales is up three percent over prior year and we are on pace for our best year ever in the golf shop. All we did on that special day was invite women golfers to learn about the game and hope they’d share in a little of our love and passion for the game, which turned out to be quite a boost to our business.
