The 117th California State Open second round saw some movement on the leaderboard at Bear Creek Golf Club as the field was battling to make in the cut in warm and challenging conditions. Zane Thomas of Las Vegas, NV remains consistent in the second round of the California State Open, matching his first round score of 68 to take the lead in the California State Open. The 136 (-8) two day total positions Thomas one stroke ahead of Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz who carded a 68 in today’s round.
Round one leader Kenny Pigman, PGA and three others find themselves two strokes from the lead and tied for third with a two day total of 138 (-6). Pigman followed his round one 66 with an even par 72. Past California State Open Champion Chris Gilman of Yorba Linda, CA (69-69), Spencer Fletcher of Los Altos (71-67) and Riverside’s David Gazzolo (70-68) are knotted with Pigman in third place just two strokes shy from the leader Thomas.
The low 60 and ties made the cut following today’s second round, with the cut being at 148 (+4). Total of 66 players found themselves above the cut line and returning to Bear Creek for the final two rounds.
Dakota Robinson of Discovery Bay posted low round of the day with a six under 66. Round two stroke average was 74.61.
The bunched up leaderboard sets the stage for an exciting final two rounds at Bear Creek Golf Club.
