It was moving day in the California State Open as the leaderboard was covered with red numbers, but the name at the top remained the same in Zane Thomas. Zane, of Las Vegas, continued the resilient play at Bear Creek Golf Club carding the low round of the day with a 64 (-8) and stretch his lead to two strokes. Zane Thomas has recorded five eagles and 16 birdies in his 54-holes of the Championship for a three day total of 200 (68-68-64).
David Gazzolo matched Thomas’s low round of the day with a 64 (-8) to jump up the leaderboard to be in second place in the State Open and two strokes behind the leader Thomas. Gazzolo closed strong on his back nine in the third round posting a 30 with four birdies and an eagle.
2014 PGA Professional National Champion Michael Block of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club posted a 66 in the third round positioning Block in solo third place and a 54-hole total of 205 (68-71-66).
The third round saw some impressive play with the stroke average at 71.26 having 33 players posting under par.
The final round will begin tomorrow at 7:30am at Bear Creek Golf. Be sure to follow the action unfold with live hole by hole scoring for the final three groups and live scoring at the nines.
