The SCPGA opened up its 2016 tournament calander at the beautiful, and testing Bear Creek Golf Club on January 11, 2016 for the Club Car Aggregate Series- Farmers Insurance Open. Up for grabs at this event was not only a pay check and OMEGA Player of the Year points, but also a coveted spot into the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open. Each player in the field was chasing their dream to tee it up in a PGA Tour event with the likes of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson.
That dream became a reality for newly elected PGA member Brian Smock of Coronado Golf Course. The event was the first competitive tournament for Brian after being elected to membership just days prior. His first event will be one that he won’t forget, after posting a spectacular score of 70 (-2) which included three birdies and a bogey to win the Club Car Aggregate- Farmers Insurance Open by one shot. Congratulations to Brian for winning the event, as well as becoming a PGA member. Best of luck at Torrey Pines!
The event also awarded two exemptions into the Monday Qualifier for the Farmers Insurance Open. Those two spots will be filled with Jason Timlin, PGA, and Ron Skayhan, PGA. These two will be fighting for one of the final spots into the field at Torrey Pines.
A big “thank you” to the sponsor of the Aggregate Series; Club Car.
A special “thank you” to Bear Creek General Manager Tim Gardner, PGA; Head Professional Kim Schilling, PGA; and course superintendent Paul Brown. The SCPGA is very fortunate that they were able to open their doors and accommodate the event at such short notice.
