Every year the Southern California PGA offers its members a chance to represent their section at one of the three PGA TOUR Events that come to Southern California. Ryan Kennedy earned the first spot into the Humana Challenge with his victory at the 2014 Southern California PGA Professional Championship. Our 2015 season kicked off with the Club Car Aggregate at Bear Creek Golf Club. The winner of this event would guarantee their spot in the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Chris Gilley, PGA of SeaCliff Country Club was the only player of the entire 84 player field to shoot even par or better, and he won by shooting an even par, 72. The reputation of Bear Creek and their greens stayed true to form, as players could not find a rhythm all day to match Gilley. Gilley used steady play to outlast a talented field and earn his way into the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course from February 5th-8th, 2015, and play in his first PGA TOUR event.
The SCPGA would like to send a special thank you to Bear Creek Golf Club, especially head professional Kim Schilling, PGA and Superintendent Iain Sturge for hosting the event this week. We would also like to thank all of our wonderful members for their continued support and participation of the section events. The final chance for Southern California PGA Professionals to earn a spot into a 2015 PGA TOUR will be at the Club Car Aggregate at Hacienda Golf Club on February 9th
