RIALTO & REDLANDS, CA – Another three high schools received Wilson Golf club donations this week as part of the SCPGA Foundations ClubsForeYouth program. To date the SCPGA Foundation has donated 135 sets to high school girls golfers throughout the Southern California region since the inception of the program in July!
The first of three donations for the week was held at Morongo Golf Club for the Redlands High School girls golf team. There, seven lucky students were set to accept their brand new sets of Wilson Golf clubs. In attendance for the ceremony was the SCPGA Executive Director/CEO Tom Addis, PGA, and SCPGA Chief Operating Officer Jeff Johnson, PGA. After receiving the their brand new Wilson Golf clubs, the players couldn’t contain their excitement, telling us the following;
Erica Schorett – “I’m so excited to us them in our upcoming matches, it’s such a happy feeling to receive this amazing gift.”
Megan Sisemore – “I’m really excited for this opportunity to experience the game of golf on a whole new level. It’s so exciting because I’ve never had my own set of clubs, Im looking forward to developing my mid/short iron game to it’s full potential!”
Mya Jacobson – “I am very thankful to the SCPGA Foundation for providing these clubs to myself and my teammates. It means a lot to me now that I have this set, I can now put in hard work on the range whenever I want and develop my love of the game!”
Head coach Tom Sponheim, said, “Seeing the smiles and excitement on the girls faces is beyond words. A brand new full set of Wilson Golf clubs gets the girls more excited about playing golf, and that is the ultimate goal! I owe the SCPGA & LA84 Foundation’s for their generosity, this is something that I couldn’t do for the team with the current budget and I owe it all to you guys for the support. Thank you so much!”
Upon the conclusion of the donation ceremony, SCPGA Chief Operating Officer Jeff Johnson, PGA, said, “It brings me an extraordinary amount of pride to see all the excitement and enthusiasm that these young women are experiencing right now because they have something all of their own, its wonderful indeed. This amazing ClubsForeYouth initiative wouldn’t be possible without the tireless dedication of our Foundation Manager, Matt Gilson, who has really made this all happen!”
The SCPGA Foundation arrived at Colton Golf Club where the players from Rialto High School were preparing for a team practice. At the beginning of the ceremony, Rialto High School Head Coach Dante Cabanas said, “It’s amazing to see the girls receiving these sets today, especially because in the Inland Empire a lot of these kids weren’t raised playing golf. It’s very heartfelt, particularly from the coaches point of view to see these clubs being donated, because this is the only sport a lot of these kids will ever play.” The SCPGA always strives to grow the game of golf anywhere it can, and its achieved though vehicles such as the ClubsForeYouth program. The fact that these Wilson Golf clubs can spark their interest into the game is what makes this program so special.
Marcella Pedroza – “This makes our team feel like we’re appreciated, because it’s very rare to see girls playing the sport of golf in our area. I’ve always played with hand me down clubs, and to have a brand new set that I can use whenever I want feels amazing! I’m so excited to play with them in competition.”
Diamond Valdez – “It makes me feel really ecstatic to have a set of clubs that I can keep and call my own. I’ve never had the opportunity to own my own set of clubs before and it’s very humbling tone on the receiving end of this amazing program.”
Elizabeth Clark – “It makes me feel happy that the SCPGA is able to show support to the women in the sport of golf by providing our team with these Wilson Golf clubs! I had a beat up hand me down set of male clubs that were very tough to use, and now that I have my own set I’m looking forward to seeing my true potential.”
Upon conclusion of the donation ceremony, Cabanas, said, “On behalf of Rialto High School, I want to thank the SCPGA Foundation for providing this amazing opportunity to not only our program, but each individual student.”
The final donation for the week, was at Wilmer Amina Carter High School, where an additional 6 students were set to receive their brand new clubs! With this donation, the ClubsForeYouth initiative will have donated an impressive 135 Wilson Golf clubs since the inception of the program in July.
Gary Hanson the Girls Golf Coach, said, “It’s something that they are going to keep for a lifetime, and the motivation they will gain form this will be tremendous. They now can go out and practice whenever they want and it’s only going to positively impact their participation in the game. Our organization cant thank the SCPGA Foundation enough for their generous support!”
