PACIFIC PALISADES, California – The historic Riviera Country Club hosted the 3rd Annual Foundation Classic Professional-Amateur on Monday, February 26th. The atmosphere and playing conditions couldn’t have been better as 75 professionals and amateurs competed in an 18-hole stableford format to raise funds for the Southern California PGA Foundation’s college scholarship and ClubsForeYouth® programs.
The 2018 PGA TOUR Genesis Open was still fresh in the minds of the competitors as grandstands, hospitality chalets, and the tournament’s Sunday hole locations were still present. Following 18-holes of stiff competition and excellent shot making among the individual PGA Professionals, Thomas Gardner of the Los Angeles Country Club (CA), Paul Guerra of Bakersfield Country Club (CA), and Darrell Kestner, of Deepdale Golf Club (NY) finished atop of the leaderboard with a terrific score of 35 points. Kestner is the PGA of America’s reigning Golf Professional of the Year and former PNC Champion. The Valley Club (CA) team of Scott Puailoa, PGA, David Cronenbold, Bill Anderson, Andrew Anthony, and Bowen Farrell won the team competition by registering an impressive 108 points, surpassing last year’s championship team score by 14 points.
On behalf of the Southern California PGA Foundation, a special thanks is in order for Megan Watanabe and Michael Yamaki for providing the golf course and being a gracious host for the annual Classic. A huge thanks to PGA Director of Golf Todd Yoshitake for organizing another first-class event for the Foundation! The Southern California PGA Foundation truly appreciates the wonderful support from The Riviera Country Club staff and all 75 of the participants. We look forward to seeing everyone next February!
