WEST COVINA, California – The SCPGA hosted 61 PGA Apprentices and Assistants at South Hills Country Club for the 2017 installment of the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship.
Temperatures were hot, but the scores were low, especially during the first round for Chris Lungo of Arroyo Trabuco G.C. and Nick Badel of Virgina C.C., both firing a round one score of five-under to take the 18 hole lead. Heading into the second round, Kenny Pigman of Goose Creek G.C. fired up the afterburners, carding seven birdies, and finishing with a round two 67. Pigman wasn’t phased by the triple digit heat, finishing with a nine under, 135 total. Also tied for first after regulation was Kyle Mendoza of South Hill C.C., forcing a playoff on the first hole. Pigman claimed the title of National Car Rental SoCal Assistant Champion after outlasting Mendoza on the first playoff hole. Congratulations Kenny!
